You can improvise blues in minor keys as well. Or, in the same way, the G Blues Scale with the chords G7, C7 and D7. You can, for example, combine the C Blues Scale with C7, F7 and G7 chords. A tip is to use the left hand for a chord and play notes from the scale with the right. So how can you improvise on the piano with blues scales? By learning these scales you will earn great tools for improvising in the musical style of blues (these scales can also be used in jazz improvisation). The flat third, flat fifth and flat seventh notes of the scale are the blue notes of the scale. For instance, in the C blues scale the notes are C Eb F Gb G Bb C. There is a close correlation as you can see. A blues scale consists of 6 different notes, namely the root, flat 3rd, 4th, flat 5th, 5th and flat 7th of the major scale: 1 b3 4 b5 5 b7. (C7) C, E, G, Bb – (F7) F A C Eb – (G7) G B D F.The scale is displayed in a two-octave pattern and in the five main fingerboard positions. We can see the relationship when comparing the notes in the scale: In the fingerboard diagrams the notes in the scale are marked out with blue circles (root notes in darker color). In the case of C Pentatonic, the three chords are C7 – F7 – G7. The Pentatonic Blues Scale is built upon three dominant chords.
